Caterpillar College Preschool’s Year End Video
There’s no doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic will go down as one of the most devastating tragedies in modern history. Not only does this virus impose significant public health concerns, but it’s also created many economic challenges as well. Every day, we see more coronavirus cases, people falling on financial hardships, and organizations forced to close their doors. Yet, somehow, a Wisconsin based preschool managed to stay open and thrive through it all. Today, I’m excited to share their story, along with the year-end-video we produced for them.
Caterpillar College is a privately owned preschool in Pleasant Prairie, WI who’s been preparing 3 and 4-year-old students for kindergarten since 2001. A typical year for the students includes field trips, special guest visits, and holiday programs, but of course, this wasn’t a normal year at all. In March, the coronavirus made its debut, forcing Governor Tony Evers to issue his safer at home order, which dropped preschool attendance significantly.
Rachel Israel-Quinn, my mom, is the acting director of the school. When everything seemed to fall out of control, Brian Quinn Sr. (my dad) was the one who assured her that nothing has changed. He told her to continue putting the kids first and everything else will fall in place.
Days later, Caterpillar College online scholars was born, which allowed students and their parents to video into the classroom. She adjusted the curriculum to teach her class about germs and the importance of washing your hands. For Easter, the Caterpillar College teamed up with the Easter Bunny to make house visits, where they danced in their student’s front yards. They even planned a special parade that encouraged their clients to decorate their cars and drive through the school parking lot, honking their horns and waving to there teachers.
The rest of the academic year went on successfully, and I had the privilege to capture all of these moments in their year-end-video. This project has been a Caterpillar College tradition for many years, but this video is unlike anything we’ve ever produced before. We wanted to acknowledge how COVID-19 disrupted our way of life, while keeping the overall energy of the video uplifting and kid friendly. It’s received several positive reviews from the faculty, students, and their families. Now, I’m excited to share it with you.
